LOGO DEVELOPMENT

Founded by Alistair Macdonald in 1970, A Macdonald (Pty) Ltd. began as a small steel merchanting operation out of Maydon Wharf in Durban, South Africa. A staff of ten ran the shop until the company's first windfall in 1975 when Macdonald Steel supplied the 16-inch pipe for the second 600km overland oil pipeline from the port city of Durban, to Africa's industrial hub, Johannesburg. Pitching against far more established international industry players, the fledgling company showed tenacity that would become a hallmark in later years.

Following the untimely passing of Alistair Macdonald in 1992, the business was acquired by Cecil Reddy, the then Sales Director, who had already been with the business for over two decades.

Renamed Macdonald Steel, we have moved steadily forward since then - diversifying our interests into manifold secondary manufacturing divisions, currently employing over 700 staff across 9 divisions.

And we're still going strong, 40 years on.
